Fiction 101

Paperbacks $2JUNE 2008

On Love and war

Fiction 101 sells "gently used" books, and we are perhaps best known for our policy of offering all mass market fiction paperbacks at $2 per book. But we sell much more than fiction; the store houses as many as 75,000 books at any given time, including large selections of used cookbooks, nonfiction and books for children.

Fiction 101 moved to Coos Bay in late 2007 after 18 months in neighboring North Bend. As the move was completed, co-owner Kate Fox explained: "We listened to our customers," she said. "They asked for more books and easy parking, and the move to Coos Bay lets us offer both."

This summer, Fiction 101 has added two big collections at its expanded location in downtown Coos Bay:

Love Letters

The Love Letters romantic fiction collection
includes 15,000 paperback and hardcover romance novels at $2 each. This summer we're adding another whole room to house our collection of 10,000 category romances featuring Silhouette, Harlequin and even vintage and specialty publishers. The category romances will be an even better bargain: $1 each!
Soldier & Spy

The Soldier & Spy collection of military history and politics
offers vintage atlases, biographies and period accounts of military battles. We have thousands of paperback thrillers at $2, and an extensive collection of collectable, vintage or rare military volumes at reasonable prices. Come browse through thousands of travel, National Geographic and military maps.

The Nugget bar

The coffee's on

We now have self-serve coffee and cappuccino in our nonfiction room - just put a dollar in the jar and help yourself. The huge bar that now holds our cookbooks dates back to the days when our space was the old Nugget Bar, a longtime Coos Bay workingman's hangout.

Koski Building
How to find us

Fiction 101 Books & Library Antiques is located in the historic Koski Building at 235 N. Broadway in the Tioga Hotel block (southbound Highway 101). The Koski Building, built in 1920 by Finnish immigrant J.V. Koski to house his tailor shop, is listed on the National Historic Registry. It is located next to the Tioga Hotel and just across the corner from an easy-access city parking lot.
